Projects use airdrops to bootstrap a community and reward early adopters. Eligibility usually depends on past on-chain activity — using a protocol, holding a related token, or participating in testnets. Major airdrops (UNI, ARB, JUP, LayerZero) have made early users five- or six-figure profits, fueling the whole 'airdrop farming' industry.
