Depeg

Stablecoin trading meaningfully off its target price.

A depeg is when a stablecoin slips from $1.00 — sometimes by a few cents (USDC during the SVB scare, March 2023), sometimes catastrophically (UST, May 2022). Brief depegs are normal during stress; sustained depegs signal something broken in the backing or redemption mechanism.
