Identity verification required by regulated exchanges.
KYC ties an exchange account to a real-world identity through ID, selfie and sometimes proof of address. Most CEXs require KYC for fiat deposits and withdrawals. DEXs are typically permissionless and don't require KYC, though some jurisdictions are starting to change that.
