Open Interest (OI)
Total notional value of all unsettled futures contracts.
Rising OI alongside rising price = new longs entering = trend confirmation. Rising OI alongside falling price = new shorts entering. Falling OI = positions closing. OI is one of the cleanest signals for whether a price move has real conviction behind it.
